County championship 2019 - division two thread

Chris Rushworth nabs the first wicket of the county season in the first ball, dismissing Derby's Luis Reece. Two balls later he gets Willy Madsen.

Just imagine - you endure the long Winter, honing your game, ironing out those little deficiencies, perhaps experimenting with different bats before settling on your weapon of choice. And then Spring finally arrives and itís time for the first game. Your skipper decides to have a bat, allows you to face first ball and youíre immediately out. What a deliciously cruel game this is.

Or just imagine you spend the last 5 seasons having woeful batting performances which at times the awesome seam attack has been able to overcome. For some reason you sign a Pakistani fast bowler.

You're 36-5 against Leics on the first morning!!

Same old Sussex!!

Looks like batting first in the second division might be tricky this year.

You watching Sussex?

God knows why we've gone for 5 bowlers. If Briggs bowls a single ball in the match I'd be surprised. Also, as there are an even number of teams in each division, why don't they just do 14 game weeks where everyone plays? No real need to start quite this early in April.

Good bowling start for Leicestershire without their gun overseas signing.

Decides to bat first against Durham in early April with the temperature in single figures... I expect Reece gave his skipper a wide berth in the changing room an hour later when the latter was dismissed.

(Much fancied for promotion) Middlesex 2 down already following on against Northants. Nathan Buck has 7 wickets in the match so far. He only took 8 first class wickets in the time he was with Lancashire.

and while I think of it

Durham need 361 to win.

No pressure then.

We've no chance.

Might get a draw if it rains.

Good start to the day by Durham, but still a long way from safety.

The resistance has been broken. Good effort from our openers but only heavy rain can save us now.

Outstanding effort from Leicestershire to beat Sussex in Hove. Easily the result of the round, across either division.

Probably a good toss to 'win', but Sussex's woeful batting at the top of the order still haunts them. No idea why we have never signed an experienced opener from overseas.

Agreed. Brilliant. Nixon appears to be doing a belting job.

I'm not really sure how invested Gillespie is in the job. It's just a part time thing that fills a void until the England or Australia jobs come up again.

It also seems an odd time for Luke Wright to be retired from FC Cricket. I get the impression it wasn't his choice, especially as he got a ton in a practice match last week.

It does, doesn't it? You would expect something like that in the close season, not just as it starts.

I am not sure why some people seem to rave about Sussex and their promotion prospects. They have shown for the last two seasons that they are an okay Division 2 side. The might go up, but they might not.

If they sorted out their batting I think they'd be nailed on for promotion. But they haven't.
