Australia v Pakistan Tests 2019

With the upcoming series, there is currently a warm up match going on against Australia A. This team includes Harris, Burns, Khawaja, Head, Pucovski, Bancroft and Carey as the top 7.

Pakistan scored 428 (which included two century retirements from Asad Shafiq and Babar Azam), the Aussies are at the moment 73-9!!

More work for Steve Smith's shoulders....

I think Davey Warner will fill his boots back on the even bouncing, non seaming tracks of 'straya to be honest.

Possibly, but no one is going to bowl over the wicket to him anymore. And Pakistan have a decent seam attack.

Although the rest of the Aussie team are playing for NSW, including Smith, who scored yet another century, and Henriques, who scored an unconverted fifty.

I expect Australia will cruise this series, as they have the T20s.

I haven't the faintest idea what our test team will look like come Thursday. After this performance, I'm not sure I want to.

Wasn't he the fella to get an 8fer v England in the U19s world cup a couple of years ago?

Edit: He was. Got a good memory for that, but then again a mate of mine's son played for England U19.

I seem to remember we bowled them out for about 100 and then failed to chase it down.

I'm still in shock that Cameron Bancroft has been selected in the Test squad for the Pakistan matches. His last 3 first class innings have seen him score 30 and 0, 10 and 6*, 49.

While we're at it, lets remind ourselves of his Ashes performances - 8 and 7, 13 and 16.

I also liked the squad article where it said 'Mitchell Marsh couldnt be considered because (and here it should have said ...because he is utter garb age) of his hand injury, as if somehow he should be walking into the team.

I dunno anymore. If Pakistan can somehow conspire to dismiss Warner and Smith cheaply, they should easily roll past Australia. But then Pakistan is Pakistan. If you follow my meaning.....

Oh and Joe Burns is in the side too. He should have been in the side for the Ashes, because he played well in the SL tests. You know, reward for good performances?

But no. He's suddenly been selected again on the back of twin failures. Did the selectors like the look of his golden duck?

Was it an elite golden duck??

That top order feels like shuffling deckchairs on the Titanic. Is there any difference between Burns, Harris or Bancroft? On his Ashes form, Warner should be nowhere near the squad, but lack of alternatives have him as a cert.

I think on Aussie pitches with the kookaburra ball Warner will soon be among the runs again.

Agreed. I think Burns deserves the spot over Harris and Bancroft atleast, given his appalling treatment over the Ashes.

Heres the leading run getters for the first class season. It makes for depressing reading. The players at the top have either filled their boots on roads or have been tried at test level and discarded for being crap.

http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/eng...ype=tournament

Gone are the days we had players plundering first class attacks for fun without a call from the selectors. Lehmann, Hussey bros, Bevan (atleast not for along time), Siddons, Cox etc etc.

This Pakistan series will just see mediocre players fill their boots and be heralded as first choice players for the next year or so, until we realise they all suck and we repeat the cycle. Hopefully instead they smash us and we select some very young guys and stick with them for awhile at the top level. We can be crap for a bit while we build some sort of a foundation for being a tougher side. Bring back Alan Border!!

It was a bizarre game, I didn't remember Popes name but I do remember the bowling spell.

Not in Tim's Team. But he'll probably be gone soon enough, so they'll revert to type.

If he's played in the Ashes there would have been a Burns on each side. Has anything like that happened before?
