County Cricket 2021 - General

Wonder if other counties are thinking of going away for pre-season.

BBC in an article about Melton becoming overseas rather than kolpak with Derbyshire saying:

Counties will be permitted to register up to three non-domestic qualified players at any one time next summer, with two eligible to play in any fixture

In all competitions??? Has that been said before?

Not sure what effect it will have on the 2021 English domestic season, but I think the counties will be very disappointed that our Australian 2020/21 season doesn't finish until the end of April 2021. The remaining fixtures were released today, all this due of course to Covid.
Quite a few Aussies are playing county cricket in 2021.

The 5 day shield final runs from April 15-19th, and the 50 over Marsh Cup final is scheduled for April 30th.

I wonder if county matches will see bigger crowds this year? A sunny April would help, of course.

I'd be happy just to see crowds.

I'd hope by that time that enough of the vulnerable have got the jab so that we can all go. In any case the demographic of the average county crowd might suggest that a good chunk of them will have already had it!

The county championship is scheduled to start on 8th April.

Pre season friendlies as early as 18th Match .

How does that work where are the away players going to stay when hotels don't open till May?

Expensive bio bubbles as players criss cross the country? Even at Merchant Taylor's School on 22nd March when Middlesex play Yorkshire and Kent the visitors on 25th March? That's 10 days before Easter are they closing the school again 14 days after reopening?

So it's ok for professional sport only? Minor Counties?

and Schools open to visitors during term time (MTS term ends on 26th March)?

I guess when the Minor Counties start playing, hotels will be open, May 17th is the day.
Don't know anything about schools, but I would imagine the cricket and pupils could be kept apart at Merchant Taylor's

Perhaps a third of the MC season currently scheduled for before 17th May. Their T20 competition.

Logic seems that it will be reduced to friendly matches when the counties are within daily travel distance. So Oxfordshire, Berkshire and Buckinghamshire OK except when they are scheduled to play Wales!

Season has started with Somerset and Worcestershire drawing a pre-season 2 day friendly at Taunton on 18th and 19th March.

Usual modern day scorecard showing everyone batting twice:

@BBCSport has signed a new four year deal with @ECB_cricket to provide commentary on EVERY ball of EVERY County match.

Will start with @CountyChamp from 8th April & includes all games in @RoyalLondonCup & @VitalityBlast.

Lancs sign Shreyas Iyer for the Royal London Cup
