so more qualifiers for 2023 World Cup, might be a struggle or mad rush at the end to get games/series in. So far only England and the sides they've played are even going yet

Can’t wait for this tour. Tired of IPL.

I would normally not even watch the IPL but in our current circumstances I can't get enough of any cricket. I've even got the WBBL set to record on my planner this weekend so that I can watch it at a reasonable time.

Are these the only confirmed England fixtures for the winter ?
Crazy we don't know what the Xmas schedule is.

Shame the weather isn't playing ball (Why do they even have Cricket in Sydney?) Extraordinary hitting from Heather Knight the other day though. Some of the cleanest i've ever seen.

Currently watching the Stars seemingly chasing down the Strikers 154 quite comfortably. |

Here are the squads, as strong as we can pick I think (apart from Archer rested from ODI's). Noticeable that Banton has lost his spot.
Twenty20 squad: Eoin Morgan (Middlesex) (captain), Moeen Ali (Worcestershire), Jofra Archer (Sussex), Jonathan Bairstow (Yorkshire), Sam Billings (Kent), Jos Buttler (Lancashire), Sam Curran (Surrey), Tom Curran (Surrey), Chris Jordan (Sussex), Dawid Malan (Yorkshire), Adil Rashid (Yorkshire), Jason Roy (Surrey), Ben Stokes (Durham), Reece Topley (Surrey), Mark Wood (Durham). One-day squad: Eoin Morgan (Middlesex) (captain), Moeen Ali (Worcestershire), Jonathan Bairstow (Yorkshire), Sam Billings (Kent), Jos Buttler (Lancashire), Tom Curran (Surrey), Lewis Gregory (Somerset), Liam Livingstone (Lancashire), Adil Rashid (Yorkshire), Joe Root (Yorkshire), Jason Roy (Surrey), Olly Stone (Warwickshire), Reece Topley (Surrey), Chris Woakes (Warwickshire), Mark Wood (Durham). Reserves across both formats: Jake Ball (Nottinghamshire), Tom Banton (Somerset), Tom Helm (Middlesex). |

I'll be honest and say I'd forgotten about him. Not really surprised re Banton. Didn't have a good autumn and invisible in IPL.

So from that squad, the T20 team is probably:
Roy, Bairstow, Malan, Morgan, Buttler, Stokes, Moeen, Curran (S or T), Jordan/Wood, Archer, Rashid |

I would much prefer it if instead of playing all those limited-overs matches they would just play one test match. So as an exercise I have put together a test XI out of those two squads. See what you think:
Root Stokes Ali Malan Morgan* Buttler Bairstow+ Woakes Rashid Archer Wood |

The good news is that the Joe Denly experiment appears to be over. The bad news is that the Lewis Gregory experiment continues. Bizarre choices as reserves in Ball and Helm.

With the T20 WC next year - they are prioritising that over ODIs regarding rest for the top players.
Makes sense.

Bizarre choices that they have reserves at all, they have 20 players between the two squads.

The squad is lacking regular test players. Morgan is a one day specialist, and while he captains limited overs teams very well he shouldn’t be in charge of a test team. Woakes hasn’t got a good record overseas.

I suppose Morgan is only a one-day specialist because they dropped him from the test team. Sure he went through a bad patch, but I thought he showed some promise, and he's probably a better batsman now than he was when he was dropped. Woakes as you say would be a slight worry on the bowling front, but he has the benefit of experience, and there are three other seamers. I reckon that team might beat South Africa. |
